Autumn Wedding Inspiration: Wine Red & Terracotta Done Right

There's a particular kind of magic that only autumn weddings have. The air is crisp, the light is golden, and the world turns into a palette of deep reds, burnt oranges and earthy browns — all on its own, without any help from a florist. You just have to show up and let the season do its work. And if your accessories are right, the photos will still make you stop scrolling years from now.

This editorial was born from exactly that feeling. A real autumn wedding shoot, real light, real emotion — and a colour story built around wine red and terracotta. We're proud to have been part of it, alongside an incredible team of wedding vendors who made every detail count. And yes — our son Tobias made a surprise appearance too. More on that in a moment.

Why autumn

The season that makes every photo better

Summer weddings are beautiful. But autumn weddings are cinematic. The soft, diffused light of October and November flatters everyone — no harsh midday shadows, no squinting into the sun. The natural backdrop of falling leaves and russet tones means you need far less artificial decoration. And the mood? Warm, intimate, real.

Autumn also tends to mean smaller guest lists and more considered choices — which is exactly why the details matter more. A well-chosen tie or bow tie doesn't just complete an outfit. In these photos, it becomes part of the colour story of the whole day.

Wine red and terracotta: a pairing that just works

Wine red is one of those colours that feels simultaneously bold and timeless. It has depth. It photographs beautifully in natural autumn light — rich but not aggressive, strong but not loud. Paired with terracotta, warm sand and dried floral tones, it becomes something that feels genuinely seasonal rather than themed.

For the groom, wine red opens up two distinct paths. The bow tie reads as more relaxed and modern — perfect for a ceremony in a barn, a vineyard or any venue that leans into natural textures. The English regatta tie, on the other hand, brings a clean, traditional elegance that works beautifully in a church or a stately hall. Both read equally well in photos. It really comes down to the man and the moment.

Groom's accessories

The pieces from this editorial

For this shoot, the groom wore our matte wine red self-tie bow tie — a piece that needs no clip, no shortcuts. You tie it yourself, and you wear it with the kind of quiet confidence that comes from knowing the details are handled. The matte fabric catches light softly, which is exactly what you want on camera.

If you prefer the pre-tied version — for peace of mind on the morning of your wedding — our matte wine red bow tie offers the same look with a ready-to-wear finish. Same colour, same fabric, same quality. Just one less thing to think about on the day.

For grooms who feel more at home in a traditional tie, our wine red striped wedding tie — an English regatta style — is the go-to. The diagonal stripe adds movement and texture without being showy. In autumn light, it simply glows.

A pocket square and socks that finish the story

A well-dressed groom doesn't stop at the tie. The pocket square is the final stroke — the detail that shows you thought it all the way through. Our wine red pocket square in matte/glossy fabric plays beautifully with the autumn palette. Fold it simply — a flat fold, or a soft puff — and let the colour do the work.

And the socks? They're the private joke between you and your photographer. During the ceremony, no one sees them. But when the photos come back — the ones where you're sitting, or the groom is showing off his shoes — those black socks with wine red polka dots tell the whole story at a glance. Polished on the outside, personality on the inside.

A family moment

Tobias and his first editorial

We are a family brand. That's not just a tagline — it's genuinely how Quentino works. David and Petra founded it in 2013, and over the years, the brand has grown alongside our family. Photographed this editorial, it felt completely natural that our son Tobias would join in.

He wore our wine red children's bow tie — a miniature version of the groom's piece, made with the same care. Because why should the little ones miss out? Whether it's a page boy, a ring bearer, or just the boss's kid stealing the show, a matching children's bow tie is one of those details that makes the photos entirely unforgettable.

Tip
Matching the ring bearer or page boy with a children's bow tie in the same colour as the groom creates one of the most shared wedding photos every time. It's a tiny detail. It makes a huge impression.
Thank you

To every vendor who made this possible

Editorial shoots like this one don't happen by accident. They happen because talented people with a shared vision choose to work together. We are genuinely grateful to every vendor who brought their craft to this autumn day — the photographer, the florist, the stylists, and everyone behind the scenes whose name never ends up in the caption but whose work is in every single frame.

A special thank you to Lovebrand, whose eye for light and emotion turned a September afternoon into a collection of images we'll be proud of for years. Collaborations like this remind us why we do what we do.

If you're planning a wedding and need help putting together the perfect groom's accessories — from the tie to the pocket square to the socks — our Wedding Planner is the place to start. We'll help you find the right combination, coordinate with the bridesmaids' colours, and make sure everything arrives on time.
